It’s much quieter than the Northern parks, the rivers and lakes of the Selous are the lifeblood to a park that hosts phenomenal volumes of game including Africa’s largest elephant and wild dog populations and lion prides.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Selous Game Reserve

Morning at 08: 30 hrs pickup from your hotel in Dar es Salaam and drive to Selous Game Reserve. You will have a picnic lunch on the way and the journey will take about 5 hours through the most unexplored and untouched areas in Tanzania. In the afternoon embark on a boat safari, where you’ll admire hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat. Meals and overnight will be at the lodge/camp

You will have a full day in the Selous Game Reserve exploration of the reserve by 4 wheel drive vehicle. The permit will allow you to have good photographic opportunities and the chance to explore different sections of the vast park. The Selous Game Reserve is the largest in Africa, covering 54,600 square kilometers. Selous is famous for its elephants, commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras, and greater kudus. It was originally set aside as a hunting area where animals are abundant but shyer than the Northern Parks. Dinner and overnight will be at the same camp/lodge

After breakfast from the camp/lodge, collect a picnic lunch then drive to the reserve to search for its predators and prey and visit the hot spring and have a chance to swim over the Savannah. Late evening return to your camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Early morning before breakfast, you will have a wilderness walking safari that will give you a particularly intimate feel for the African wilds. Walking safaris offer a good chance of seeing giraffes, zebras, elephant, and good birding. It starts in the morning with the guidance of a local experienced guide. This takes 2 hours before you come back to your accommodation for breakfast and later drive back to Dar es Salaam. You will arrive there around 3 pm and be dropped off at the hotel or airport or at the ferry dock to connect the ferry to Zanzibar
